Search Ottawa County Inmates

Ottawa County inmate records are kept by the Ottawa County Sheriff's Office at the County Jail in West Olive. The Sheriff publishes an in-custody inmate lookup that lets the public search for Ottawa County inmates by last name. The lookup shows only people who are in jail right now; released or transferred inmates do not appear. State prisoners and federal prisoners are not in the county lookup; those searches use the Michigan Department of Corrections OTIS system and the Bureau of Prisons inmate locator. The Sheriff also runs visitation, commissary, video visit, mail, and release notification programs for in-custody inmates.

Ottawa County Inmate Lookup Tool

The official tool is the Ottawa County Sheriff's in-custody inmate lookup at app.miottawa.org/InmateLookup. The page shows a "Data Last Updated" timestamp, requires a complete last name, and uses a CAPTCHA before each search. Booking date, gender, and first name are optional filters. The lookup is for current in-custody inmates only. A person who was booked and released will not appear in the results. The Sheriff warns that information changes quickly, that an arrest is not a conviction, and that identity can only be confirmed by fingerprint.

For release notifications, the county directs users to VINELink. For released state prisoners, use the Michigan Department of Corrections OTIS system. For federal prisoners, use the BOP inmate locator. For confirmation of custody status on a specific person, call inmate information at (616) 738-4650.

The public search form is shown on the Ottawa County Inmate Lookup page.

How to Use the Ottawa County Inmate Roster

The roster works best when the user knows the person's last name and approximate booking date. CAPTCHA blocks bulk searching, so the lookup is best used one person at a time. If the search returns no results, the person may have been released, transferred to another facility, never booked at this jail, or recorded with a different name spelling.

  1. Open the Ottawa County in-custody inmate lookup in a browser.
  2. Type the inmate's complete last name. Add a first name if known to narrow results.
  3. If known, add the booking date with month, day, and year.
  4. Pick gender if it helps. Solve the CAPTCHA and click Submit.
  5. Review the result list for name, booking information, and any displayed custody fields.
  6. For more detail, call inmate information at (616) 738-4650 during business hours.

Contacting an Ottawa County Inmate

The jail page lists Contacting an Inmate, Commissary & Account Deposits, and Inmate Visitation pages for in-custody inmates. The Sheriff warns that money sent through the mail is not the responsibility of the Sheriff's Office. Books sent to inmates become the property of the Ottawa County Jail. Commissary and inmate account deposits are handled through the county jail's commissary page. For specific deposit limits, deposit methods, and approved book/publication rules, the official Sheriff page is the source of record.

Release Alerts and Custody Notifications

Because the in-custody lookup shows only current inmates, release timing can be hard to track without notifications. The Sheriff links to VINELink for custody alerts. VINELink lets a user register a phone, email, or text contact and receive an alert when an inmate's custody status changes. For sentenced state prisoners who left county jail and went to the Michigan Department of Corrections, the OTIS system is the official locator. See released inmates for the full state and federal release workflow.
