Ottawa County Probate Court Overview
Ottawa County Probate Court is one of Michigan's three trial courts and the only Ottawa County court that handles estates, guardianships, conservatorships, mental health, and drain appeals. Chief Probate Judge Derek W. Dalman leads the court. Probate Register Johanna Wallace and Court Administrator Susan M. Franklin are listed as key staff. Probate judges in Michigan are elected on nonpartisan ballots for six-year terms. The court shares a landing page with the 20th Circuit Court for navigation but is administratively separate.
Michigan has a probate court in each county except for ten counties that operate in five consolidated districts. Ottawa County has a standalone probate court. The court's jurisdiction is set by Michigan statute and covers any matter the law assigns to probate.
